Today an email was sent to Santa Monica residents about an upcoming rally to save the Civic Auditorium. This email stated that a group calling itself the "Santa Monica Coalition” was co-sponsoring the rally, and also tied that group to wanting to stop needle exchanges.
Please be aware that the “Santa Monica Coalition” is NOT the "Santa Monica Coalition for a Livable City," (SMCLC). Rather, it is a recently formed group with a name that is confusingly similar to ours. While SMCLC has been vocal that the City must have public discussions on the future of the Civic before it begins negotiations with a potential buyer or long-term lessor, we are not co-sponsoring this rally and have taken no position on needle exchanges.
The Santa Monica Coalition for a Livable City (SMCLC) will always use our full name or initials and include a link to our website (www.smclc.net) in our work. And unlike this so-called group, we are transparent about our officers and board members.
