"Report: Impacts of Bergamot-area developments understated"

Friday, April 13, 2012

The Santa Monica Daily Press reported Friday that the lengthy study prepared by SMCLC's lawyers and traffic engineer on the Hines/Bergamot project at the Papermate site fails to "accurately portray the project's impacts on the environment, what could be done to lessen those impacts and altogether ignored alternatives to the proposed project . . . ."  City officials did not respond to requests for comment.  Click here to read article.

SMCLC and representatives of all seven neighborhood associations met with the city's Planning Director and staff to strongly object to a grueling, unreasonable Planning Commission schedule that would have both the Hines/Bergamot and Village Trailer Park projects heard for final approval within two weeks of each other in May and before the Area Plan is released.

We confirmed with the City at that meeting that there is no mandatory timeline by which these Development Agreements must be decided and that the Area Plan concept will be out at the end of this year.  We asked that the Area Plan be released first and that the PC meeting dates be changed to give sufficient time for residents to attend and be heard.

The City will be responding to our request next week.  Click here to read the group letter to the City.
